DUANG FENGSHAN

winning second phase of the competition
Molewa (CHINA) | April 2015
DUANG: is a Chinese neologism that has become a viral meme despite its meaning being unclear. Some have adopted it as an adjective to emphasise the following word, and so do we!
FENGSHAN: Mountain Peak. The building has the form of a mountain of which the slopes are climbed to reach the peak from which clear views of the Flower Ocean Park can be enjoyed.

The proposed residential building is designed to focus on the new 80ha Flower Ocean Park in Molewa (China), creating a lasting impression for both visitors and residents.
The sloped form of the building maximise views towards the Flower Ocean from every flat and provide a scenic procession for visitors, who can take a lift from the street to the viewing platform and then wonder down the building slopes towards the Flower Ocean.
The main body of the building floats above street level, allowing the building users to flow under the main body and walkways and into the inner courtyard.

A careful, detailed and harmonious arrangement has been developed for every flat, following the Feng Shui Bagua Map:
- The layouts are arranged to keep the semi-private areas (living, kitchen, dining) separate from the private areas (bedrooms and guest room).
- At the centre/heart of the plan (Sector 9 of the Bagua Map) is natural light, essential for well-being and happiness. Each flat has a small internal courtyard, containing a herb garden, which brings natural light into the heart of the plan and gives views and a second aspect to the kitchen area.

The inner courtyard is designed following the same 9 sectors of the Bagua Map.
Sector 9 is the central one and the "Heart" of the courtyard. This is a small cherry orchard, a reminder of the Flower Ocean; it creates a natural and contemplative centre for people to relax and unwind. Sector 5, at south-east, is the main entrance to the courtyard and the beginning of the ascending stairs to the viewing platform, located in sector 1, at north-west,
